The movie, inspired by the 1994 Hollywood film Forrest Gump, will trace exemplary events in Indian history as seen through the eyes of an autistic man named Laal Singh Chaddha. The film is set to release on August 11, 2022, under the banners of Viacom 18 Studios and Aamir Khan Productions.

Following the critically acclaimed film Article 15, the actor will reunite with director Anubhav Sinha for the upcoming movie. Anek, billed as a socio-political thriller, is bankrolled by Bhushan Kumar and Sinha through their production companies, T-Series and Benaras Mediaworks. The film was originally scheduled to be released on March 31, but was then postponed again to May 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the film will finally release in theatres on May 27, 2022.
